Jacqui Hurwitz

Founder & Principal

Before founding Patina Design Studio, Jacqui Hurwitz spent more than a decade working across hospitality, retail, commercial and high-end residential projects in Australia, London, Miami and Toronto.

Her experience includes commercial, hospitality and residential projects where spatial efficiency, custom detailing, consultant coordination, procurement and delivery needed to be considered as part of one outcome. She brings that discipline to each home while responding to the more personal requirements of daily life.

Jacqui leads the design direction of every Patina Design Studio project and remains closely involved from the earliest review of the property and plans through detailed design, construction decisions, furnishing and final placement.

Patina Design Studio is engaged where the interior requires more than an aesthetic response. Ideally, the studio is appointed first as the lead design consultant, establishing the brief, spatial direction and project requirements before recommending and coordinating the architect, builder and specialist consultants required.

This gives the client one clear brief before separate consultants begin and allows the wider team to be selected and briefed around the actual requirements of the home and approved concept. Patina Design Studio can also review plans that have already been developed by an architect, building designer or developer and work within an existing project structure.

Our Philosophy

Principal-Led by Design

Patina Design Studio intentionally limits the number of projects it accepts so Jacqui can set the design direction and remain closely involved throughout the work. Clients are not passed from an initial creative presentation to a separate delivery team. The thinking established early is carried through planning, detailing, documentation, site decisions, furnishing and installation.

Function Before Finishes

The quality of a home is established before decorative selections begin. Room relationships, circulation, proportion, storage, lighting, joinery and furniture planning determine whether the interior will genuinely support the people living there. Finishes are then developed as part of that spatial foundation, not used to compensate for unresolved planning.

An Interior Direction Carried Through

When Patina Design Studio is appointed first, the project begins with one clear brief and spatial direction before the wider consultant team is assembled. The architect, builder, engineers and specialist consultants can then be selected and briefed around the requirements of the home, allowing their expertise to contribute to a coordinated outcome rather than developing in separate directions. Where a project team is already established, Patina Design Studio can work within that structure while maintaining a clear interior direction.
